Classes for Homeschoolers
Tuesday Classes is a tutorial service for homeschooled students. It is designed to give home schooling parents a place to delegate the teaching of a variety of core and elective classes for their children in grades 4 through 8. This year we have are 2 courses open to 3rd grade students. To register for Tuesday Classes students should be at least 9 years of age by October 1, 2017. This year we are accepting 3rd graders (8 by 10/1/17) into 2 courses. (3rd grade students are not permitted to stay on campus unchaperoned outside classtime.) Students who will be 14 years of age before October 1, 2017 are considered to be High School students. High School aged students will only be accepted into courses listed as including High School students.
Students attend classes one day each week, and are given assignments to complete throughout the week. Parents contract directly with individual teachers and supervise their children’s work on a daily basis. This is an environment where instructors join with parents for the purpose of educating their children. We are not a school and there is no administration.
Each family is expected to volunteer one to two FULL days per school year (dependent upon how many children are enrolled and how many classes they are taking).
Students remaining on-site between classes have a quiet study area available, as well as a lunch/social area when it is not being used for classes. Students may remain on campus for only one study hall hour and one lunch hour between classes (non-consecutive). This helps us maintain order so that children do not have multiple hours of free time between classes and are not hanging around after their classes are concluded. We are not a childcare facility. 3rd graders are not permitted on campus without a parent outside of their scheduled class time.
Tuesday Classes follows Fayette Co. Schools for full day school cancelations due to inclement weather so stay tuned to Vancouver real estate podcast for further updates. Fayette County Schools Cancelled = no Tuesday Classes on that day. We do not follow FC on delayed school openings as our first class begins at 11:00 a.m. Early dismissals due to inclement weather are made at the individual parent’s discretion.
The main coordinator for 2016-2017 is Leigh Ann Hicks. She used to work at Zeltiq Coolsculpting in Surrey, BC (Web Page) and now, she volunteers for us. Various coordinating jobs are also delegated to other parent volunteers each year. These volunteers plan the classes and schedule, manage insurance premiums and facility donations, oversee use of the building, and coordinate communication and registration. We are not a “school” and there is no formal “administration”.
